Nappy Policy
If a child is still in nappies or pullups and needs changing during the session, the parent/carer will be asked to provide an adequate supply of nappies, wipes and nappy sacks in a named changing bag/rucksack for the staff to deal with nappy changes. If a nappy rash cream is required to be put on the child, we will require written permission from the parent/carer and it will be recorded in the Medicine Book (see Medication page 13 of the Health and Safety Policy).

When changing a nappy, the staff are required to wear disposable vinyl gloves. All nappies supplied will be put in the child’s changing bag. When the child is changed the used nappy with be put in a nappy sack and tied to the changing bag, put on the child’s peg and returned to the parent/carer at the end of the child’s session for them to dispose of.
There is a nappy change chart on the wall beside the changing tables, it stipulates regular times for the keyperson (where possible) to fill it after changing the children. The chart will be filled in stating action taken either changed (wet or soiled), checked dry and any child who is being potty trained will be taken to the toilet.

LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE
LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE
Lockdown procedures should be seen as a sensible and proportionate response to any external incident which has the potential to pose a threat to the safety of the children and adults in the setting.
Lockdown procedures may be activated in response to any number of situations, but some of the more typical might be: -
-
A reported incident or disturbance in the local community (with the potential to pose a risk to children and adults in the setting).
-
An intruder onsite (with the potential to pose a risk to children and adults in the setting).
-
A warning being received regarding an environmental risk locally, of air pollution (smoke plume, gas cloud etc.)
-
A major fire in the vicinity of the setting.
-
The close proximity of a dangerous animal.
PARENTS SHOULD NOT: -
-
CONTACT THE SETTING DURING LOCKDOWN AS THIS COULD BLOCK TELEPHONE LINES THAT ARE NEEDED FOR CONTACTING EMERGENCY SERVICES.
-
SHOULD NOT COME TO THE SETTING DURING LOCKDOWN AS THIS MAY PLACE THEMSELVES AND OTHERS IN DANGER.
PARENTS SHOULD: -
-
WAIT FOR THE SETTING TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT WHEN IT IS SAFE FOR THEM TO COME AND COLLECT THEIR CHILD.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LOCKDOWN?
-
All staff have been told to be vigilant and if they see something which is likely to cause harm the staff member will alert the rest of the staff by shouting “LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN”
-
All outside activity will cease immediately, children and staff will return to the building.
-
All staff and children should remain in the building and external doors and windows should be locked and lights turned off. The only external door that can be opened from the outside is the back garden door. A key for this door will be situated above it and door will be locked on the way to the kitchen. Shut all internal fire doors. No-one should be allowed to enter or leave the building.
-
All staff and children should make their way to the kitchen, checking each area is empty as they go and the kitchen door locked behind them. Pull curtains on windows in the Manager’s office so an intruder cannot see in.
-
Staff should bring the registers including visitors book and contacts folder. All the children and staff should be counted, checking the total with the register, if found that there are any children or staff missing it the responsibility of a senior member of staff to look for them.
-
Staff will sit with the children to help keep them as calm and quiet as possible. Turn off lights in the kitchen.
-
A Senior member of staff to ring 999 to report the incident and follow their instructions.
-
In the event of an air pollution or chemical, biological or radiological contaminants issue, air vents, fans, heating and air conditioning systems should be closed or turned off. Seal up all cracks around doors and any vents into the room with tape, aim to minimize possible access points of pollutants.
-
If a group are on an outing when the incident occurs, a staff member to telephone them to tell them not to return to the nursery until the all clear has been given.
-
We will remain in the kitchen until told otherwise by the authorities, supporting the children and each other, for as long as necessary.
AFTER A LOCKDOWN HAS TAKEN PLACE
-
On being told to do so by the police, we would email parents to notify them of the incident. Our telephone will be manned to receive incoming calls.
-
A letter to parents will be sent home as soon as possible following any serious incident to inform parents of context of lockdown.
-
Following the need for lockdown, the setting will create a full record of the event. Policies and procedures will be reviewed as soon as possible to identify any areas for potential development.
-
A notification of significant incident will be made to Ofsted within 14 days (preferably as soon as possible after the incident).
PLEASE NOTE:- Staff will practice the lockdown procedure when the children are not on the premises as we feel this could cause them undue stress.
